Overlooking the Gulf St Vincent and surrounded by some of Australia’s best wine country, Adelaide is a great place to visit at any time of the year. The city is located on a flat fertile corridor of land between the sea and the Mount Lofty Ranges. The climate is Mediterranean with warm to hot, dry summers and cool to mild winters. Our tour includes four nights in Adelaide and from this base, we explore the city, the Adelaide Hills, and the spectacular Fleurieu Peninsula to the south. Sit back and enjoy the facilities and service aboard our Touring Coach as we travel to South Australia for our 5-day holiday in Adelaide.

Day 01 (D): Melbourne to Adelaide
Day 02 (BLD): Adelaide
Day 03 (BD): The Adelaide Hills & Hahndorf
Day 04 (BLD): Victor Harbour & the South Coast
After a hearty breakfast we travel to Victor Harbour. We are joined by our local guide for a brief sightseeing tour, followed by morning tea, before taking the scenic coastal road through Port Elliot to the historical township of Goolwa (an aboriginal word meaning ”elbow”). Situated on the bend in the Murray, near the mouth of the river, Goolwa initially grew with the developing trade along the Mighty Murray. The Murray mouth silted up and large ships were unable to get up to Goolwa, so a railway line, the first in the state, was built from Goolwa to nearby Port Elliot. In the 1880’s a new railway line to Adelaide spelt the end for Goolwa as a Port Town! We head to the Goolwa Wharf where we board the MV Aroona for a river cruise. The cruise takes us through the Goolwa Barrage, one of 5 constructed in the 1930s to separate the seawater from the fresh water of the river. From here the river mouth and the entrance to the Coorong are 4kms further on and, depending on the tide, can be freely accessed. Lunch is served on board and the ship’s Captain gives a full commentary on the history of this very interesting area, including the making of the film “Storm Boy”. On our return to the Port of Goolwa we will visit the Signal Point Visitor Information Centre, which was opened in 1988 by Prince Charles and Lady Diana. The centre is an interpretative display on the River Murray & Darling Basin System providing history, paddle steamer information, aboriginal culture, and environmental issues. You may wish to visit the Café, which overlooks the Murray and its Riverboats and souvenirs are also available. Our day complete, we return to Adelaide and our final night on tour.
