7.00am depart Melbourne and commence our spectacular 4-day scenic holiday in the sub Alpine Village of Bright. A country town renowned for its magnificent avenue of trees which are flaming red, golden and copper in autumn and is also the gateway to Victoria’s Snowfields – Mt Hotham and Mt Buffalo.
After a drive along the snow road and through the Ovens Valley, we check into our Motel and take some time to explore the many facilities that are on offer.
Day 2. Mt Buffalo
After a hearty breakfast, we head off towards one of the Alpine Regions, Mt Buffalo. As we wind our way up the mountain and take it in the beautiful surroundings and its history. Once on top of the mountain we will tour through the “Grand Old Lady” – the Buffalo Chalet where we will indulge in our lunch.
Just after lunch we will visit the ski fields and view an informative audio-visual on the history of Mt Buffalo before returning to Bright where everyone can wander around town and riverbanks in the beautiful Centennial Park.
Day 3. Beechworth
Today we visit Beechworth and its famous bakery for lunch. Beechworth is reminiscent of the flamboyant gold rush era. Wide tree-lined streets and dignified buildings are a beautiful backdrop to the four seasons. The sweet perfumed spring gardens and sparkling summer days contrast the rich colours of changing leaves in autumn and frosty winter mornings.
Beechworth is regarded as Victoria’s best-preserved historic gold mining town, preserving a rich legacy from our 19th century. It is home to 32 buildings listed by the National Trust including the Powder Magazine and Beechworth Cemetery and The Beechworth Court House, where the infamous Ned Kelly stood trial.
Day 4. Bright to Melbourne
After breakfast we depart the Bright surroundings to commence our journey home. We can call into Miranda Wines for a tasting and then onto Glenrowan to review the extensive display of Ned Kelly memorabilia before continue to make our way back home. Hopefully everyone has had a very memorable holiday.
